Caves of TARSANG – A Hidden Gem of Gujarat

Stone Age Caves – Stone Age rock Paintings – Ancient Shiva temple and Ancient Maheshwari Maa temple in the cave

Place is Located at Tarsang Village in Pancmahal District of Gujarat. This place is not as popular as it should be Because of Less Interest of Gujarat Govt.
Very few people know about this place and those who know it, are known for the temple of Maa Maheshwari located here, but there are many other things here which are outside the attention of the people Just because Govt Failed to Explained Citizens about the Importance of this Place Still Govt not Giving attention to this Place.

The tourism literature has included almost all important destinations But there are still many small unexplored areas in this country which needs attention of all those who involved in tourism promotion.  Place is Located on the top of Hillock made of scattered large stones, which has a climb of 200 to 250 steps.

In the cave there is a temple of Maa Maheshwari, ancient Shivling and many other ancient idols, one of which is the idol of Lord Ganesha and the other is the idol of the demon, the rest of the idols are beyond understanding.

On the top of the Hillock there are 2 to 3 caves between the big stones,

\where you can find rock paintings made by Stone Age humans, you have to search there by trekking because there is no sign board, most of the People Don’t Know about this rock paintings.

There is also two small Ancient Shiva Temples Besides of this Rock Hillock At a distance of 100 meters from Starting footsteps.

Vishwasrao H Sonawane former Professor of Archeology and Ancient History of MS University was honored with Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar Award by the Government of Madhya Pradesh for doing research on rock paintings and Harappan culture.

According to my opinion, this place must have been important from the era of Mahabharata because I think things found here are made in different time period rock painting in Stone Age period, two small Shiva temples in Mahabharata time period and Maa Mahshewari temple in British period.

Rock Painting 1: You can see here a Swastika Symbol Which is Left facing direction Swastika is also called “Aswastika” (not Sauwastika as per popular belief).
The swastika symbol, 卐 (right-facing) or 卍 (left-facing) is an ancient religious icon in various Asian cultures. Asia has been the host of many ancient civilizations, including those based in Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley and China.
Before this left-facing Swastika rock paintings have been found at many places of Asian countries.
